Ursula K. Le Guin – A Wizard of Earthsea (Earthsea Cycle book 1)

A Wizard of Earthsea (The Earthsea Cycle)

A Wizard of Earthsea is book 1 in the Earthsea Cycle (book 1 of 5).  It tells of how Ged goes from a boy to a powerful wizard.

Now a few years ago I had read book 2, Tombs of Atuan for a Children’s Literature course.  I remember disliking it and felt the author’s only saving grace was her phrasing.  I just re-read my review and it seems I remembered correctly.

So onto book 1, A Wizard of Earthsea.  This book is quite honestly very bad.  It does not even have the flowery language that book 2 had.  It’s just bad.  I can say without a doubt this is the worst fantasy book I have ever read.  I suppose one good thing is that it is short (a little over 100 pages), so if you are so inclined to read it and tell me I am wrong, please do so.  I will not be reading any more books in the series.
