Brandon Sanderson – Mistborn: Well of Ascension (Mistborn book 2)

The Well of Ascension is book 2 in the Mistborn trilogy by Brandon Sanderson.  Book 1, Mistborn: Final Empire was exceptionally good.  Book 2 was only O.K. though.

Vin is starting to believe she is the Hero of Ages.  Sazed has done a pretty good job of helping convince her of that.  Vin and Elend Venture are fully a couple now.

With the Lord Ruler finally overthrown, Elend has been named the new king, but his foothold is not very strong.  Various armies are marching on Luthadel intent on overthrowing Elend and becoming ruler of the Final Empire themselves.

To be honest, I was bored throughout most of the book.  Although there was constant action throughout the first 3/4 of the book, it just didn’t excite me.  Those armies posed a real threat to Luthadel, but it was obvious what the outcome would be, eventually.  The politicing was fine, but nothing too grandeosque.

The book itself wasn’t actually that long, it just seemed long and boring.  The last 1/4 of the book made me realize why I didn’t like the first 3/4 of the book; it was just filler material designed to distract us from the real problem – The Well of Ascension.

Throughout the book I was wondering who the heck is Zane and why is he important?  Finally at the end of the book he as a character made sense.  He was potentially *****spoiler******   another Hero of Ages  ******end spoiler****** (don’t read until you’ve read the book).

Boring book, but necessary for the last 1/4 of it as it pertains to the first and inevitably the 3rd books in the series.
